State of emergency declared in Montreal
Montreal has declared a state of emergency due to flooding caused by torrential rains and melting snow.
The measure will remain in place at least until this afternoon.
The province of Quebec in the east of Canada, of which Montreal is the capital, has seen widespread flooding, as has the province of Ontaria.
Across Quebec, nearly 1,900 homes in 126 towns and cities have been affected and people have been evacuated from flood zones with the help of 1,200 troops.
