Storm Doris causes flight delays and cancellations

Passengers due to travel from London Heathrow today are being warned to expect delays and cancellations due to bad weather.

Heathrow is urging customers to check with their airlines before travelling to the airport with flight schedules reduced by 10%.

“Strong winds and poor weather forecast today, related to Storm Doris, are expected to cause some flight delays and cancellations across the UK,” it said.

“If you are due to travel, please check your flight status with your airline prior to arriving at the airport.”

British Airways warned Storm Doris will affect some of its short haul and domestic flights today as it abides with take-off and landing restrictions imposed by Heathrow and NATS.

It said high winds might also make it difficult for it to operate ground equipment at other airports, partcularly in Scotland and northern England.

BA said it would use larger aircraft where possible to alleviate cancellations and re-timed flights.

EasyJet said it still plans to operate flights as normal and said it was working closely with the Met Office to minimise any impact to flights.

It warned of gale force winds around Liverpool and the Isle of Man today which could impact flights.

Stansted said this morning that flights were operating as normal but said it was keeping a close eye on the weather.

The Met Office is warning that Storm Doris will bring widespread gales to England and Wales.

It said these would be severe in central areas and exposed coasts. ‘Squally’ showers are expected further south, while there will be ‘significant’ snowfall in the Scottish borders.
