Storm forces hundreds of flight cancellations
Hundreds of flights have been cancelled as a winter storm brought blizzard conditions to the US Midwest.
Worst affected airports included Chicago O’Hare and Chicago Midway International, Kansas City International, Detroit Metropolitan and Minneapolis.
More than 700 flights were cancelled yesterday, other flights were delayed by up to 90 minutes and further disruption is expected due to strong winds and heavy rain.
In Chicago, the rain is expected to turn to snow. Accumulations of up to 30cm of snow are expected in some areas of the Midwest and motorists have been warned of bad driving conditions.
Some 133,000 people were left without electricity yesterday after a twister ripped through Mobile, Alabama.
