Stormy weather ahead?
US weather forecasters are predicting an active hurricane season but nothing like last year’s record of 27 storms and 14 hurricanes.
It’s statistically unlikely that four major hurricanes will hit the coastline this season, said William Gray, a Colorado State University professor.
He predicted 17 named storms in the upcoming season, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Five of those, he predicted, would be “intense.”
That’s far less than last year, which was the busiest and most destructive season on record.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration will release its outlook on 22 May.
Hurricane season starts 1 June and continues through 30 November.
