Strengthening pound puts Asia on the map for cheap holidays
Long haul Asia holidays are kindest to the wallet, the Post Office says, with the pound going furthest.
The latest Post Office Long Haul Holiday Report shows a strong pound and stable prices gives Asia the greatest spending power as a region.
It reviewed the average cost of ten common holiday purchases, including beer, dining out and sun lotion.
The study shows prices have fallen in most destinations it surveyed.
Holidaymakers looking for winter sun will get more bang for their buck in Asia.
Hoi An in Vietnam was the cheapest overall, and down 19.2% since last autumn.
Bali, Delhi and Phuket also ranked highly for affordability. on the Post Office price barometer.
Mombasa in Kenya and Cape Town were also in the top ten.
The UK pound has strengthened on the dollar by over 10% in the past year, making US and Caribbean holidays generally more affordable.
The Post Office says one of the biggest consumer price drops is in Santiago, Chile which is down by 43.9%.
Montego Bay in Jamaica came out cheapest of the Caribbean destinations in the study.
However, some destinations have strengthened against the pound, making trips more expensive, such as Mexico.
