Strike warning for travellers to Germany
Passsengers travelling to Germany tomorrow are being warned to expect delays and cancellations at several airports due to a planned strike by airport ground staff.
Lufthansa has cancelled all intercontinental flights from Munich and it warned that flights from several major airports in Germany will also be affected, including those to and from Frankfurt, one of the largest.
The airline is not expecting to resume its normal schedule from Frankfurt until after 3pm tomorrow.
EasyJet said the strike by members of the Verdi union might disrupt the security screening of its passengers at Dortmund and Munich airports.
It said other services at the two airports might be affected by the strike over pay.
Verdi is encouraging employees at the airports in Frankfurt / Main, Munich, Dusseldorf, Cologne / Bonn, Dortmund and Hanover to start the strike at the scheduled beginning of their shifts tomorrow.
The fire brigade is expected to join the strike at some locations and there are plans for a large demonstration in Frankfurt tomorrow morning.
