Strong pound leads to booking bonanza – for some
Holidaymakers might be getting more euros for their pounds this year but the strength of sterling hasn’t led to a bookings bonanza for everyone, it seems.
A third of those who responded to a recent TravelMole survey agreed the weakened euro had helped make January ‘a boom time’.
But almost 66% of respondents disagreed with that statement. TUI, the biggest European operator, said today that, overall, bookings were in line with last year.
However, Derek Jones, managing director of long-haul specialist Kuoni said today that January was one of the busiest he could remember.
The pound is currently worth 1.34 euros, compared with 1.2 last year.
