Sun Princess hit struck down with another norovirus outbreak

Dozens of cruisers were been struck down with the gastro bug norovirus aboard the Sun Princess cruise ship during a 10-day cruise of the South Pacific.

Up to 91 were affected on the 2,000-passenger Sun Princess which docked in Brisbane on Thursday.

The cruise line instructed workers to perform ‘deep cleansing’ of the ship and terminal which caused a slight delay to departure of the next cruise.

Norovirus symptoms typically include nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Brisbane’s Metro North Public Health Unit confirmed at least 91 cases of norovirus.

"Consistent with current public health alerts that norovirus and influenza are widespread in the general community in NSW, Victoria and Queensland respectively, proactive and successful steps were taken on board Sun Princess to limit any spread of the illness," said Carnival Australia.

"The first case was reported on day one of the cruise, suggesting the illness was introduced to the ship during embarkation in Brisbane."

The same ship was hit by back-to-back gastro outbreaks on two consecutive cruises back in February.
