Surfer in critical condition after shark bites off leg
A surfer is in a critical condition in hospital after a shark bit off his leg off a beach in Western Australia.
Ben Gerring, aged 29, was in the sea near Mandurah, south of Perth, when he was attacked.
Local news reports said he was at the back of a group of surfers when he was snatched by the shark. Other surfers helped get him to shore where he was resuscitated.
Surf Lifesaving Western Australia has reportedly issued a warning before the attack, after spotting an unknown species of shark in the area.
