Swiss to cut agency commission
Swiss is the latest airline to announce it is cutting commission to 1% for agents in the UK.
The cut from its current rate of 4% will take effect on January 1 – the same date that the drop to 1% comes into effect for Lufthansa, BMI and Iberia.
Swiss said the decision was part of its “drive to operate as efficiently and profitably as possible”. The move is hardly surprising given the announcement earlier this week of a planned commerical deal with British Airways and the oneworld alliance.
General Manager UK, Ireland & the Nordics Richard Castle said: “We will of course continue to look at other targeted methods of working with the UK trade, and pursue any opportunities that arise, particularly those which will best reward our most loyal agents.”
To date, the other airlines who have also said they are cutting commission to 1% for agents in the UK comprise: British Airways (Dec 1), GB Airways (Dec 1); and American Airlines (Dec 10).
