Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre Wins Industry Award
The Sydney Exhibition and Convention Centre has won the New South Wales Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Industry Award for its achievements as a meeting venue for 2007.
The award, in the category of “meeting venues – more than 500 delegatesâ€, was announced at a function held at the Centre last Thursday (March 13).
Centre Chief Executive Ton van Amerongen said the venue was proud to receive the accolade, which recognised the Centre’s commitment to achieving a triple bottom line across financial, social and environmental areas.
“This award is a great acknowledgement of the quality and passion of our team at the Centre, and their commitment to creating new benchmarks for our industry,†Mr van Amerongen said.
Mr van Amerongen said the Centre’s submission outlined the venue’s financial success and its significant economic return to the State.
“However, we also believe we need to be accountable for our social and ethical performance. We are very proud of our achievements in these areas, which were also outlined in our award submission,†Mr van Amerongen said.
He said initiatives such as the Centre’s environmental program, Ecowise, and its work with local food rescue service, OzHarvest Food Charity, demonstrated its commitment to making a contribution to the community.
The award also recognised the Centre’s ongoing refurbishment program including the remodelling of its Bayside rooms during 2007 to create even greater flexibility within the venue.
