Sydney Tower Takes Romance to New Heights
Sydney Tower’s new adrenalin-charged attraction, Skywalk, has taken romance to new heights with the first marriage proposal unfolding on the roof of Sydney.
Law student John Elias, 20, was the first of two high-level Romeos to propose to their girlfriends at dusk on Thursday night, November 3, and more sky-high engagements are sure to follow.
John’s fiance is legal secretary Heidi Hanna, also 20, who was “shellshocked’ at kneeling John’s surprise proposal of marriage on Skywalk’s spectacular glass-floored platforms suspended 260m above Sydney.
But her immediate response was “yes”, with a ring that John had safely secreted inside his Skywalk suit, confirming the unique enagagement.
“I’m on a high – literally,” said a blushing Heidi. “This is perfect. Just wonderful. What a buzz!”
The couple, both of Parramatta, became high school sweethearts after meeting five years ago. They plan to get married in 2007.
Skywalk guides helped John set up the surprise engagement in a process that included the safe attachment of the ring to his safety suit, Meanwhile Skywalk marketing manager Thomas Davey provided the couple with a bottle of champagne and souvenir pictures after the event to congratulate them on becoming the first couple to get engaged on Sydney’s newest and highest attraction.
