Sydney Tower the place to be to watch the Queens.
An interesting and positive side effect of Sydney’s fascination with large ships paid off for Sydney Tower on February 20, with visitation figures surging on the day of the joint visit by Cunard liners Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2.
Offering uninterrupted birds’ eye views of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth 2, Sydney Tower and OzTrek visitor numbers increased by 35% compared to the same day in 2006 while Sydney Skywalk numbers rose a massive 64%.
Sydney Tower Marketing Manager Thomas Davey said Sydneysiders took the opportunity to escape the streets below and take in the best view of both ships and the fireworks above the city, adding, “Locals and visitors to the city realised both the Observation Deck at Sydney Tower and Skywalk offered fantastic views of the two ships entering and docking in Sydney Harbour and the best seats in the house for the amazing firework display later that night,”
He added, “Skywalk also gave visitors the chance to enjoy the perfect summer weather on the day while watching the crowds gathered to see the ships 260 metres below them.”
