Taking strip search seriously

Friday, 17 Apr, 2012 0

Uncensored videos of a woman stripping naked are still popular after last week’s incident when a woman apparently protested her right to smoke by taking off her clothes at Denver International Airport.

Some reports say the popular video is being sold for several thousand dollars.

Some news reports said the surprise strip happened when a confused woman literally took the term "strip search" seriously.

The woman blamed lack of sleep for the episode, according to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper, which quoted Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson saying: "It appears to be some sort of a breakdown."

Denver Police said the decision to strip was "unrelated to the smoking issue."

Whatever it was related to, "people couldn’t get to their cellphone cameras fast enough," according to a US TV news report.

YouTube has run a clip of the incident, taken from a TV news report, under the memorable headline: "Woman gets naked at Denver International Airport for no apparent reason."

As for passenger reaction, a witness told FOX31 Denver: "Most were shocked. No one really noticed her at first because people were trying to get to their planes. Then, everyone realized she was just standing there completely naked."

The woman was later taken to a hospital for mental health evaluation. Denver Police say she will not be arrested and will not face any charges.

News reports say it’s not the first time something similar has happened.

Last year, a female British Airways passenger felt so frustrated over airport bureaucracy she stripped naked. The 2011 incident happened in Bermuda, when Customs officials told the woman that they intended to body-search her. The woman took all her clothes off "out of frustration" her lawyer said.

The woman was not charged with any crime.
