Talks to avert this week’s rail strike resume today
Railway workers are planning a 24-hour strike from Thursday, which is set to cause travel chaos across the country.
The RMT union said their members will walk out from 17:00 on June 4 and again, for 48-hours, from 17:00 on June 9 after they rejected a fresh pay offer by Network Rail.
Both sides have been talking with conciliation service ACAS, but no agreement was reached over the weekend.
As talks entered the fourth day this morning, the RMT said signalers and maintenance staff are also planning an overtime ban from June 6 to 12, which will cause further disruption.
Workers suspended a planned strike over the last Bank Holiday after Network Rail came up with a new two-year pay offer and a promise not to introduce any compulsory redundancies, but this has since been rejected by union members.
