Tamil Tiger air raids prompt airlines to suspend flights
Emirates and Cathay Pacific have suspended flights to Sri Lanka, after a rebel air raid on the capital, Colombo.
Emirates operates flights from Dubai to the Maldives, Singapore and Indonesia through Colombo and a spokesman for the Dubai-based carrier said the situation will be reviewed within a day, and a relief flight will be operated for any stranded passengers.
Cathay Pacific says it has suspended flights to Sri Lanka’s international airport indefinitely.
Tamil Tiger rebel planes attacked fuel depots around Colombo early on Sunday, briefly plunging the capital into darkness.
It was the third such attack in a month.
