TAT eyes Middle East, South Africa
BANGKOK – The Tourism Authority of Thailand is spreading its net further by opening overseas offices in Dubai, Vietnam and Moscow.
The Dubai office will look after 11 countries in the Middle East while the Moscow office will be responsible for Eastern Europe.
TAT governor Phornsiri Manoharn attended Arabian Travel Market in Dubai earlier this month to support the big Thailand contingent at the show.
Emirates Airlines plans to increase direct flights from Dubai to Bangkok from three a week to five a week.
TAT hopes that the emerging markets of Middle East, South Africa and Eastern Europe will offset falling income from the Asian market where arrivals in the first four months dropped to 1.52 million, from 1.64 million in the same period last year.
The TAT has high hopes for the Thailand Travel Mart 2007 Plus Amazing Gateway to Greater Mekong Subregion (TTM+2007) at the Impact Muang Thong Thani Exhibition and Convention Centre, Bangkok, from June 7-10.
The event promotes both Thailand and its neighbours in the Greater Mekong Subregion — Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and China’s Yunnan Province.
