TAT hosting Songkran events in 16 Thai provinces
The Tourism Authority of Thailand will host Songkran holiday celebrations in 16 major provinces nationwide underscoring its year-long efforts to promote ‘Thainess’ to visiting tourists.
The Grand Songkran Festival 2015 will take place from April 11 to 20 in 20 locations in 16 provinces, such as Bangkok, Chon Buri, Ayutthaya, Sukhothai, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Phuket and Songkhla said Juthaporn Rerngronasa, TAT deputy governor for international marketing for Europe, Africa, the Middle East and the Americas.
The events will be divided into two distinct components.
Traditional Thai celebrations for Songkran will showcase local cultural practises in keeping with the Discover Thainess campaign.
Also, traditional water-splashing activities will take place in eight designated areas for revelers, which include locations in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen.
TAT estimates up to 2.6 million people will travel to events during the Songkran holiday period which includes almost 500,000 international tourists.
