Taxing travel issues, continued
The trend for destination’s attempts to collect taxes from-our-of-state travel companies continues with Oklahoma joining Florida and San Antonio, Texas in the movement.
“The state filed a lawsuit against a variety of online travel firms, including Priceline.Com, Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity, to recoup millions of dollars in taxes the state says it is owned for hotel room bookings,” according to the Oklahoman newspaper.
The suit charges the companies used a variety of ways to avoid paying their full share of taxes.
Similar lawsuits have been filed in Florida and several other cities in Texas.
How have the lawsuits done in the past?
Most of them failed, according to Interactive Travel Services association spokesman Andrew Weinsten.
