Ten dead after Japan tour boat goes missing
At least ten people are dead after a Japanese tourist boat went missing off the Hokkaido coastline.
The tourist boat accident occurred on Saturday with 26 people on board.
The vessel is still officially missing, believed sunk.
Kazu 1 was conducting a tour around the Shiretoko Peninsula.
A mayday call was received sparking a large air-sea search.
Patrol boats, planes and helicopters have searched a wide area of the coastline.
Local media said there were three-metre waves at the time.
The coastguard said the bodies of seven men and three women were recovered from the water.
An investigation has been launched looking at boat operator’s decision to conduct the tour in rough weather.
The same boat was involved in two minor accidents last year, Japan’s transport minister said.
