Thai Airways to start tourist charter flights to Phuket
Flag carrier Thai Airways plans to kickstart international tourism to the Land of Smiles with charter flights to Phuket from six countries.
Thai Airways will fly in tourists from Denmark, the UK, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
It will also operate charters from select cities across mainland China.
Likely starting in late November, flights will run twice a month and may be increased based on initial demand.
Thai Airways says it has implemented a number of safety measures to protect staff and passengers from Covid-19.
The airline has introduced various safety protocols including physical distancing at check-in, passenger boarding, disembarkation and in the aircraft cabin, as well as enhanced cleaning of planes and in airport areas.
The airline was the first to be certified by the Amazing Thailand Safety & Health Administration.
Thailand has earmarked Phuket to restart international tourism in phases.
A number of hotels are currently being accredited as alternative state quarantine properties to house visiting tourists who must quarantine on arrival and follow a rigid set of protocols before being able to explore the island and other Thai provinces.
