Thai demonstrations hit airline results
Thai Airways International announced a third successive quarter of losses yesterday due partly to a drop in traffic at a time when the airline had increased capacity with the delivery of seven new aircraft.
A drop in the value of the baht against other currencies, caused by concerns for the Thai economy sparked by anti-government protests, also impacted on the airline’s balance sheet by pushing up its foreign debt.
The result for the full year was a net loss of 12 billion baht, which compared with a profit of 6.2 billion baht in 2012.
Thai’s total passenger load factor for last year fell 2.5 percentage points to 74.1%.
