Thai Government orders roadshows to lift Thailand’s image
Tourism and Sports Minister Suwit Yodmanee says that in its first meeting on Tuesday, Thailand’s new cabinet has ordered various agencies to organize roadshows abroad to restore confidence among foreign tourists and investors.
Dr. Suwit said the issue of malfunctioned baggage handling system at Suvarnabhumi Airport was also raised for discussion, with some Cabinet members worried about its negative impact on the country’s tourism, with since its launch on Sept 28, the baggage handling system at Suvarnabhumi Airport encountering glitches, with the worst on Oct 7 when about 6,700 bags were ‘stranded.’
The Minister quoted the Transport Ministry’s commitment to urgently fixing the problem.
Dr. Suwit also said the Tourism and Sports Ministry would soon discuss with the Commerce Ministry, the Board of Investment and government agencies having overseas bureaux to organize roadshows to restore foreign investors’ and tourists’ confidence as well as create better understanding on the political situation in Thailand.
He said, “The roadshows will focus on Thailand’s major tourism markets including the United States, Europe and ASEAN and that the Government would carry on the previous Government’s tourism policy and expected the number of tourists to hit 13.8 million this year”.
