Thailand appoints new tourism minister
The former female head of the Toshiba Corporation in Thailand has been appointed as the country’s new minister of tourism and sport.
Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul has joined the cabinet of prime minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha, with immediate effect.
The daughter of the couple who started the Toshiba Thailand, she studied at Wellesley College in the US and subsequently graduated in architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design.
She later joined Mah Boon Krong Center as assistant to the project manager in Interior Decoration. After two years, she joined the family business Toshiba Thailand as advertising manager and, through successive promotions, became chairperson.
