Thanda wins leading South Africa safari award

Thanda Private Game Reserve in northern Zululand, South Africa, walked away with the coveted Leading Safari in South Africa award at the 2006 World Travel Awards, held last night at the Beaches Turks & Caicos Resort & Spa.

Hailed by the Wall Street Journal as the “travel industry’s equivalent to the Oscar’s”, the World Travel Awards is the most comprehensive, the biggest and the most prestigious awards programme in the global travel industry. Votes are cast globally by professionals within the travel industry, making the World Travel Awards the most recognised in the travel industry.

Established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate the enormous achievements found in all sectors of the global travel industry, dedicated travel professionals and their clients have come to regard the World Travel Awards as the best endorsement that any travel product can receive.

Attended by top executives of winning companies, the World Travel Awards Gala Ceremony is highly regarded and established as a forum that brings together all areas of travel and tourism in recognition and celebration of their achievements. Marketing manager Anita Vernes and CEO/vice chairman Pierre Delvaux attended the function to accept the prestigious award. “It is an honour and a privilege to accept this award, considering we were up against many award-winning private game reserves in South Africa. It is also fantastic to be nominated alongside the best hotels and resorts in the world. It really did feel like winning an Oscar!” said Anita.

Other nominees in the category of South Africa’s Leading Safari included Mala Mala Game Reserve, Singita Private Game Reserve, Londolozi Private Game Reserve, Lion Sands Private Game Reserve, Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve and Shamwari Game Reserve.
