The awakening of sustainable Indonesian tourism at WTM 2022
Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is back at World Travel Market London 2022, pushing its sustainability credentials.
It is at the Wonderful Indonesia pavilion booth AS900, along with36 tourism industry participants, including tour operators, destination management companies, and hotel chains in Indonesia.
“Indonesia’s tourism industry can use this opportunity to entice European and UK markets by continually building secure, comfortable, and competitive tourist destinations emphasizing quality and sustainability,” said Deputy for Marketing Ni Made Ayu Marthini.
“We are creating post-pandemic tourism products that are smaller, tailored, personalised, and localised. With sustainable tourism, one area of attention is the creation of tourism villages, thematic villages, and creative cities”, said Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism.
Indonesia reopened to tourism in February 2022 and targets 3.5 to 7.4 million foreign visitors in 2023.
It is promoting tour packages to Indonesia’s five Super Priority Destinations: Borobudur in Central Java, Lake Toba, Mandalika in Lombok, Labuan Bajo and Likupang in North Sulawesi.
To promote Indonesian spices and cuisine abroad, the government is developing Indonesian restaurant networks abroad through the ‘Indonesia Spice Up the World’ program and aiming to activate 4,000 restaurants by 2024.
