The happiest man in the skies
Paul Tan Singapore Airlines’ GM for this region [pictured right] could hardly control his enthusiasm and excitement and was smiling from ear to hear when the world and his mates gathered for one of the launch events for the A380 on Friday.
The Mole took the opportunity of chatting with Paul and this is what he said.
“Singapore Airlines’ launch as the first operator of the A380 gives us a huge profile globally but from my perspective, particularly here in Australia, raising the benchmark and taking us way above all our competitors and we are now, without question the recognised premium airline out of Australia.”
“And it is not us saying that, it is our passengers and the media.”
“We are pricing the suites at the top end, with a premium above regular first, but we think that the economy section, where we have 399 seats will still be highly competitive and will be largely market driven.”
“We have a ten month lead in this market, which gives us a significant market advantage, and I am sure that level of interest in the aircraft will drive passengers to try Singapore Airlines and of course the A380 as a priority.”
“We are competing in different spheres to many of our competitors and in particular the low cost carriers, including Tiger Airways and this aircraft shows that, with even our economy class, being a premium service.”
