The magic of Miami
Travellers worried they might fall foul of Miami’s army of traffic wardens need fear no more – they have a good fairy looking out for them.
Shop owners and restaurants, worried that visitors were being put off by parking tickets, have hired a local man, Xavier Cortes, to zoom around on roller skates popping money into parking meters about to run out.
And he is dressed as a pink fairy, complete with pink curly wig, a lavender tutu and see-through wings, according to Ananova.
Cortes operates in the city’s Coconut Grove area, and got the job after a tourism magazine publisher advertised for a “colourful one-of-a-kind extrovert”. He is an artist with a theatre background whose works have been featured in galleries and on music album covers.
He said he loved his new job. “I’ve done Che Guevara, who is a communist, so this is just another performance,” he said. “I’m out skating, and I’m getting paid for doing somebody a favour.”
