The Nessessity of Traveling Light- Security, Flexibility, & Economy

To enjoy a hassle-free and enjoyable trip, it is very important to acquire the skill of travelling light, meaning you should carry minimum luggage (quantity and weight). Light packing/luggage relieves you from the tension extra baggage charges at airports, porter fees, less time to unpack and re-pack extra space to bring back some souvenir and/or gifts, etc. of luggage.

Other advantages include greater mobility, thereby providing additional travel options. Light luggage allows you to travel in public transportations conveniently; if 2 or more travelling together in a taxi or private car, which only fit 2-3 pieces of baggage, you won’t run into problems; train travel do not usually have much space for baggage; many overseas subway stations do not have elevators, etc.

Light luggage also ensures other conveniences like the capability to deal with missed and delayed transportation. Also, if you are opting for local public transportation or looking for a hotel once you arrive; heavy or too much luggage will mean easier hauling around, enabling you to choose the hotels according to needs at reasonable rates or suitable ambience. If staying at budget hotels, especially in Europe, they have very small or no closets. Light packing/luggage also enables you to remember where the things are placed.

Travelling light is the best option if you do not want the same worried and panicked expression on face as if something have been left behind or lost. Less baggage ensures peaceful and tension free travel especially in foreign countries where everything is unpredictable and unfamiliar. In short, light luggage means you will be able to tour the place in a convenient and adjustable manner with less unnecessary possessions to worry about.

If you are not sure what the different airlines’ baggage and carry-on allowance and fees are, to avoid surprises at the airport, Google the airlines name + ‘baggage allowance’ and check it out in advance. Most all airlines today will charge you excess baggage weight, even if it is a couple of pounds overweight. Since not all airlines have the same baggage and carry-on allowance, it is a good idea to pack for the airline with the most restrictive allowance. Additionally, some airports, like the London ones, only allow one carry-on through their security check. If you think you can sneak through two, forget it, they’ll send you back to check them in. Best of also check the airports’ web site for their carry-on policy.
