The snow could be coming back
Weather warnings of heavy snow and winds are back as forecasters predict six inches of snow could hit Scotland and northern England this weekend.
Unlike the two previous rounds of snow which saw the east and south worst-hit, the north and west will be affected this time – as easterly Siberian winds are being replaced by north-westerly Arctic gales.
Scotland was warned of transport disruption, with wind gusts of up to 55mph delivering blizzards from midnight on Friday night.
The Met Office is monitoring whether to extend warnings to northern England, where winds of up to 45mph will blow around any snow which falls, which would make driving conditions difficult.
