The trade and all the States (except one – can you guess which one?) work with Tourism Australia
Launching the “My Australia” campaign this morning, Federal Minister for Tourism Fran Bailey said that is was great that all the States bar one was working closely with Tourism Australia.
Andrew McEvoy, Tourism Australia General Manger with responsibility for domestic tourism said that at an operational level it has been great, with each State being asked to nominate 5 experiences and that Tourism Australia had enjoyed great support.
Minister Bailey repeated what she told The Mole at ATE in Adelaide earlier this year, saying, “At a Government level all the States in Australia except for one had switched on to the challenges we all face, but it was very disappointing to see that New South Wales was still totally out of step with the remainder of the country, with their arrogance and ongoing failure to invest in tourism continuing to be a serious issue”.
Minister Bailey also said, “New South Wales Minister for Tourism Sandra Nori continues to be an extremely outspoken and public critic of Tourism Australia, our campaigns and work, instead of just getting on together and working with us.”
She added, “Being out of step with the rest of Australia means that New South Wales is losing out, adding, “I believe that Tourism New South Wales has become largely irrelevant in NSW and in particular in regional New South Wales where tourism is in serious decline and except for our Tourism Australia campaign, which covers the whole of Australia, very little appears to be being done to help the industry survive in New South Wales”.
