Thieves cause chaos at airport
Two thieves who stole electric cable from an airport unwittingly caused chaos and caused damage worth some £40,000. According to the online news provider Ananova lights went out and doors were locked for five hours at the flight planning and logistics centre of Bucharest’s Henri Coanda airport. The local newspaper Adevarul reportedly said that the thieves were planning to sell the cable for around £120, but were arrested shortly after the raid. The head of the airport police, Dan Rosoga, is quoted as saying: “All air traffic at the airport could have been at risk. We were lucky that they stole the cables from the administrative part of the airport. Imagine what would have happened if they had stolen it from somewhere else. “All operations had to be made manually for five hours. Also, the magnetic cards for accessing the building were blocked, and the system needed serious repairs.” Report by Tim Gillett, News From Abroad
