‘Third illness outbreak on ship in under a month’
Fred Olsen Cruise Line’s ship Black Prince is at the centre of the third sickness scare amongst passengers in a month.
More than 100 passengers are reported to have been confined to their cabins after suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea.
The latest outbreak on a 13-night voyage from Leith in Scotland to Greenland follows a similar incident three weeks ago when 136 cases of the Norovirus illness were confirmed and on a Baltic cruise when a handful of people fell ill, The Scotsman reported.
A Fred Olsen spokesman reportedly said: “We can confirm that therre have been a number of cases of a Noro-type virus on the Black Prince during the current Greenland cruise. A total of 105 cases have been reported to the medical centre on board.
“Fred Olsen Cruise Lines takes this situation very seriously and in view of the increased numbers have takne the decision to hold Black Prince in Leith for two days to allow for extensive sanitisation.”
This is the latest in a series of Norovirus-type outbreaks on cruise ships sailing from UK ports this summer.
