Thomas Cook aircraft maintenance base to close
Thomas Cook’s aircraft maintenance company based at Manchester Airport is to close two months after its parent company collapsed.
The base had been kept running with a skeleton staff following Thomas Cook’s failure until all of its aircraft had been returned.
However, the Insolvency Service has confirmed that Thomas Cook Aircraft Engineering will now be wound down.
KPMG, which has been appointed as special manager of the company, is contacting staff with the information they need to claim redundancy payments, the Government said.
The Government also said that Thomas Cook employees who have been off sick for more than six months won’t get any more payments from the company.
Staff will be advised to speak to insurance companies about future payments. The Official Receiver is looking into missing payments that some staff were expecting in September.
The engineering arm was taken over by Thomas Cook as part of its 2007 takeover of MyTravel.
