Thomas Cook Chief Executive to depart
Thomas Cook has announced that non-executive director Peter Marks, the former chief executive of the The Co-operative Group, will retire from the Thomas Cook Board after the annual general meeting.
Marks, who joined Thomas Cook following the merger with Co-op in 2011, will hand over the chair of the Health, Safety and Environmental Committee by independent non-exectuive director Emre Berkin.
Thomas Cook chairman Frank Meysman said: "I would like to thank Peter for his support and contribution as a Board member and as Chair of the Health, Safety & Environmental Committee.
"My fellow Directors and I wish him well for the future."
64-year-old Marks, who was given a CBE for services to the retail industry in the 2013 New Year’s Honours List, retired from the Co-op last May. He was later forced to defend his time at the company before the Treasury Select Committee following the discovery of a £1.5 billion capital shortfall in the mutual’s banking arm – where he was a non-executive director – which he blamed on the bank’s former chief executive David Anderson.
