The carrier’s inaugural San Francisco flight took off on Sunday, with direct flights also operating on Thursdays.

Return prices start at £400 in economy and £790 for premium class.

"I am sure this route will be a success."

The route is the seventh direct flight operated by Thomas Cook Airlines from Manchester to the US.

The company’s chief airlines and hotels officer Christoph Debus, said: "We are the largest long-haul carrier from Manchester Airport and offer the best US leisure destinations for holidaymakers in the north west."
