Thomas Cook launches new sustainability strategy
Thomas Cook has launched a new sustainability strategy, which it claimed would ‘put the customer back at the heart of the business’.
Speaking at ITB Berlin, It said its new three-year strategy followed a year-long review of all the sustainability activity across the Group.
"The result is a stronger and simplified approach which clearly affirms Thomas Cook’s commitment to take positive action on sustainability," it added.
In its 2017 Sustainability Report, published today, the group said key milestones for last year included charitable activities that helped 18,000 peole, improved fuel efficiency across the group’s airlines which resulted in Thomas Cook being named one of the top 10 most fuel-efficient airlines in the world, and an industry-leading animal welfare policy, which led to two-thirds of the animal attractions audited against independent standards being removed from sale for breaching guidelines.
Group CEO Peter Fankhausersaid "I am determined that Thomas Cook be a positive force to help build a more sustainable tourism, working in partnership with our destinations, our suppliers, our customers, and the wider industry.
"Our new strategy re-establishes Thomas Cook ‘s voice~in sustainability and clearly demonstrates our intent. I’m proud of the progress we’ve made in the last year, but we have big ambitions and I’m clear that we need to push much further ahead .
"We know that the holidays we sell can have a positive impact on communities and the environment. I believe bold action on this agenda will help us deliver a more profitable and sustainable business over the longer term, to the benefit of our people, our communities, our customers – and our investors."
