Thomas Cook staff travel ‘perks’ cut
Thomas Cook staff are facing cuts to their holiday perks as the company looks to reduce its debt.
Agency staff have been told that their travel ‘perks’ could be capped at a maximum discount of £350 every 12 months.
Previously workers have been able to take three holidays a year, paying as little as 25% of the retail price.
Long-standing employees who have been with the company since before 2005 have been offered a more generous package of £1,050 a year.
Staff are upset over the changes as holiday discounts were seen as part of their salary packages.
Ian Ailles and Phil Aird-Mash, joint chief executives of Thomas Cook UK & Ireland told the Daily Telegraph: "The Thomas Cook employee concession scheme remains one of the best in the travel industry and we continue to offer some of the best discounts available for our colleagues so that they can continue to experience a wide range of our in-house holidays at very favourable rates. "
Agency staff were told before Christmas that the travel firm would be closing 200 of its 1,300 outlets.
Thomas Cook reported a further loss of £91m in February from operations in the first quarter to December 31, despite a 3% rise in revenue following the acquisition of the Co-operative, its new venture in Russia and increased activity in Northern Europe, see previous story.
