Thomson to scrap commission on flight only
Thomson will scrap commission altogether for flight only bookings from March, the operator has revealed.
It will offer net rates to all retailers, enabling agents to set their own margins.
The move, widely anticipated, follows the reduction on its core package product to 7%.
UK retail and commercial director Derek Jones said flight only rates will automatically default, probably to 10%, with agents given complete flexibility to alter the level.
“It’s emotive to say we are scrapping commission on flight only but agents will be offered net rates and can set their own levels,” he said.
“Agents are comfortable with this model and follows what many have been doing, including our own shops, with low cost carriers and other low value transactions.”
He said it will bring total transparency to its pricing.
