Thousands of flights cancelled in latest US winter storms

More than 2,000 flights have been cancelled as the US is hit by the latest winter storms.

Another 750 flights have already been cancelled for today (Tuesday) due to continuing heavy snow and strong winds from New England to the Deep South.

"A winter storm which has brought power outages, icy conditions and travel delays across much of the Central and Southern states is spreading heavy snow across parts of the mid-Atlantic as an icy mix tracks across the Carolinas," said Accuweather’s latest report.

This is the sixth winter storm in three weeks and has already made February Boston’s snowiest month in history, with 58.5 inches. The previous record of 43.3 inches was set in January 2005.

The cold spell in the US northeast and Canada is expected to continue into March.
