Thousands of flights scrapped amid heavy snow across Southern US
The South has been blanketed in snow, with over 2,000 flights canceled Friday.
Additionally, there are at least 2,000 other flights delayed.
Hardest hit so far is Atlanta’s Hartfield-Jackson Airport with around 900 cancelations.
That represents about 40% of all scheduled flights.
It got worst for a plane load of passengers on a departing Delta flight at the airport.
A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757 had to abort takeoff due to an engine issue.
Passengers and crew had to deplane via an emergency slide.
It led to injuries to four passengers with minor injuries.
“Four passengers are reporting minor injuries; one was transported, the remaining three were treated on scene,” the airport said.
“Delta’s flight crew followed established procedures to suspend the takeoff after an indication of an engine issue,” Delta said.
A ground stop has been issued at the world’s busiest airport and is expected to be in force until the afternoon.
Dallas Fort Worth and Charlotte Douglas Airport are also impacted heavily by weather induced flight cancelations.
Airlines including Delta, Southwest and American Airlines have announced flight waivers for disrupted customers.
