Thousands of holidaymakers evacuated in Provence forest fires
Thousands of holidaymakers have been evacuated from campsites in the south of France after wild fires broke out.
Authorities ordered around 10,000 holidaymakers to evacuate three campsites around the town of Frejus in the Var region of Provence.
According to thelocal.fr, an English-language French news website, 200 firefighters, 50 fire trucks, and water planes were called to tackle the blaze which spread through the area yesterday afternoon.
As a precaution, they evacuated the Holiday Green, Pin de la Legue and Pierre Verte campsites.
Some British holidaymakers reported scenes of panic and of seeing caravans on fire.
