Three big travel deals for Uber
Taxi and car share firm Uber has signed three key deals this week with TripAdvisor, Sabre, and United Airlines.
All of the deals are possible because of the launch of the new Uber API.
The partnership with TripAdvisor will give travellers the option to call for Uber cars through TripAdvisor’s smartphone app in more than 40 cities worldwide.
As TripAdvisor app and mobile website users visit the listings of restaurants, attractions and hotels in these cities, they will be able to see an estimate of Uber car fares and the wait times for pickup.
By tapping a ‘Ride there with Uber’ button, TripAdvisor will seamlessly take them to the Uber app or mobile website to complete the reservation and send a car to their location.
First-time Uber users will have to create an account first, providing their name, email address, phone number and a valid credit card.
Users will only be charged if they get a ride, and fares vary by location, vehicle type and travel times.
Meanwhile, a partnership with Sabre means that users of its TripCase can also seamlessly request an Uber ride and receive a special discount pricing through the TripCase app.
Sabre said recent TripCase research shows nearly half of TripCase business travellers are likely to use Uber during their next trip.
This week United Airlines became the first airline to offer customers Uber transportation services via its own mobile app.
Customers with iOS and Android mobile devices may access Uber ground transportation information in the United app’s menu or in the ‘My Reservations’ card with a current reservation.
Customers who sign up for Uber via the United app and complete their first transaction will receive 1,000 MileagePlus award miles for a limited time.
