Tiger expands in Australia with 319s and pilot training
Tony Davis, President and Chief Executive of Tiger Aviation outlined significant expansion plans for Tiger Airways Australia this week at the Australian National Aviation Press Club.
Adding to Tiger Airways Australia’s current fleet of A320s the airline will take delivery of 2 A319’s by the end of the year to expand its low fare revolution in Australia.
Tiger Airways Australia will become the launch customer for domestic passenger operations of the Airbus A319 in Australia.
The A319 has been successfully operated with low fare airlines across the world, with significant fleets in service with airlines such as Easyjet and Spirit in the US.
Tony Davis said “The addition of A319’s to our fleet in Australia will give us additional choice when it comes to expanding our footprint across Australia. For example regional destinations like Tamworth have seen the cost of airfares increase dramatically in recent years and their citizens are desperate for the low cost revolution to arrive.
The cheapest available one-way ticket to Tamworth from Melbourne for travel tomorrow currently costs $356 with Qantas – with a compulsory stop off in Sydney.
In addition Tony Davis also announced that the Tiger Group will also be setting up a Pilot Training Scheme and is finalising its selection for its second Australian base.
