Avis UK head of leisure Lisa McAuley steps into the TravelMole Time Machine…

What was your first job in travel?

I started with Lunn Poly many years ago in a combined role of secretary to a regional sales manager (RSM) and admin assistant to the branch I was based at. The RSM at the time took a huge leap of faith in me and within just six months of joining the company, put me in charge of managing my own shop.

What was the high point of your career?

I’ve had many high points in my career, but joining Avis 11 years ago sticks out for a number of reasons. I knew at the time that I wanted to work for Avis primarily as it has such a strong global brand, yet there was still a huge opportunity to increase its profile within the leisure sector. What I didn't realise back then was that 'We Try Harder' is not just a strap line, it really is a culture and I feel lucky to be part of such a great team.

What was the low point?

Many years ago, I resigned from a position I enjoyed within a business I liked working for, but when the company was sold, unfortunately some of the new management practices didn't sit well with me, so I left with nothing to go to.

What's your biggest regret?

I genuinely don't have any….yet!

What would you be doing now if you weren't in travel?

I would probably be doing charity work of some kind, as it’s always been something I’ve wanted to do.
