TMS Job Jungle Hot Tips

Friday, 28 Feb, 2007 0

Seeing the job ad and then applying for your dream job are probably about the only parts of the application process that is pretty well completely under your control with the time spent on getting your resume right critical in that next major step, that is securing an interview.

TMS says that preparing your resume can be a daunting prospect, but this is the document from which a potential employer will make their first impressions of you and remember that first impressions count.

TMS hopes that you find the following tips helpful:

** A good resume is vital and you need to make sure it is a professional marketing and sales document all about you;

** Allow plenty of time for preparation and do not rush it;

** You have to ensure that all the information you provide is current, honest and correct – this is not the time to enhance, but the time for honesty!

** Electronic resume submission is now expected, so create your résumé in a common program such as MS Word;

** Always include your name, contact details including email and mobile number;

** Highlight your achievements and career objective early on in the resume;

** List your work experience in chronological order with the most recent first;

** When listing your work experience, include the company name, city location, job title, from and to dates including month and year, a brief summary of key responsibilities and focus on specific results or achievements;

** Don’t leave any time gaps in your resume as they leave doubts and questions;

** Include details of at least two referees, ideally former employers that you reported to.

** Always make sure that your spelling and grammar are perfect – double, double check everything!

** Keep your resume succinct and as short and punchy as possible with a ten page resume definitely one for losing the readers interest and making sure you do not get an interview, but one of two or three pages much more likely to be read from beginning to end and achieving what you want, that illusive interview.

** If you do not have the confidence to prepare your own resume or just want to make sure that your resume is professionally prepared, TMS recommends you contact Jan Bartel at Resumes International and for more information CLICK HERE.
