Today expected to be the busiest day of year for air travel
Today, 29 August is set to be the busiest day of the year for air travel.
Aviation analytics firm Cirium says 3,271 flights are scheduled to depart on Friday, representing more than half a million seats.
This would be the busiest day at UK airport since October 2019, and represents 92% of the record high in 2019.
The busiest airports will be London Heathrow, followed by Gatwick and Manchester.
The top destinations include Dublin, Amsterdam, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante and Malaga.
EasyJet will operate the most flights, followed by British Airways and Ryanair.
Across the pond, today is also expected to be a record day for air travel as people fly home or on vacation for the long US Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the TSA.
