Tommy Soeharto’s million dollar win
The son of Indonesia’s former president Soeharto has won a civil lawsuit against Garuda Indonesia Airlines.

According to the lawsuit, Garuda magazine published in its December 2009 issue an article titled “A New Destination to Enjoy in Baliâ€.

The article stated that Tommy Soeharto, the owner of a tourist site called Pecatu, was a convicted murderer.

The defendants were PT Indo Multimedia, the publishing company for the magazine, and included Garuda Indonesia vice president of corporate communications, Pujobroto.
The judges said that there had been no effort to retract the article.

The defendants were ordered to pay US$1.5 million for “material and immaterial lossesâ€.

“We also order the defendant to issue an apology that has to be published in Garuda magazine for three consecutive months in the form of a minimum of one full page since the sentence is imposed,†the chief judge said.
