Too much cognac causes historic hotel blaze
More than 80 people had to be evacuated from Oxford’s landmark Randolph Hotel after a chef tipped too much cognac into a saucepan, sparking a devastating fire.
Flames were sucked into an air vent in the kitchen, spreading to the first floor and the roof of the historic hotel, which had been used as a set for the Inspector Morse and Lewis cop shows.
No-one was injured in the blaze and guests were moved to other hotels in the city. Repairs might cost more than £1 million, but the hotel, run by Macdonald, is aiming to partially re-open by the weekend offering bed and breakfast, said the Telegraph.
