Top teacher to name Royal Caribbean ship
The US national teacher of the year is to name Royal Caribbean International’s new ship Jewel of the Seas in Southampton this week.
Kathy Mellor from Rhode Island will act as godmother to the vessel which will be named on 7 May before departing on its maiden voyage.
The 90,000-tonne ship will then start a series of 12-night cruises from Harwich to Scandinavia, Russia, Norwegian fjords and the British Isles.
Jewel of the Seas, the fourth in Royal Caribbean’s Radiance class and one of three on the line’s ships sailing in Europe this summer, will reposition to Boston in September for five itineraries in Canada and New England. From November the ship will run six and eight-night sailings from Fort Lauderdale in Florida to the Caribbean.
